Table of Contents

In a world where truths and cultures constantly shift, it’s our job as parents to point our children toward the unchanging and ultimate truth found in the Bible.

That is what we are here for. Teaching our kids about the Word of God is like giving them a compass for life, guiding their lives with faith and moral values.

When we share Scripture with them, we’re helping them understand who God is, what He expects, and how much He loves them.

Often, the verses we learned as kids come back to comfort and guide us as adults. Often, the verses we learned as kids come back to comfort and guide us as adults.

Decorating a child’s bedroom with Christian elements is like planting seeds of faith that will grow over time.

Surrounding them with Scripture, stories of faith, and uplifting imagery creates a cozy, reassuring space that continually reminds them of God’s love and guidance.

These early visual reminders help build their sense of security and belonging, making it easier for them to embrace and reflect on their faith as they grow.

It’s a wonderful way to nurture their spiritual journey and support their overall development.

Below we included decor ideas with a brief explanation of how you might explain them with your children.

1. The Lord is my shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

How to explain this to your child:

This means that God takes care of us just like a shepherd takes care of their sheep. Just as a shepherd guides and provides for their flock, God leads us, helps us, and gives us everything we need, making sure we are safe and loved.

2. I am a child of God

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

How to explain this to your child:

Being a “child of God” means that God loves you very much and has made you part of His family, just like He loves and cares for all His children.

When we say “I am a child of God” (John 1:12), we’re saying that God has chosen us, and we are special to Him, just as He is special to us.

3. God has great plans for you

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

How to explain this to your child:

When we say “God has great plans for you” (Jeremiah 29:11), it means that God has wonderful and exciting things in mind for your future when we put our trust in Him. He loves you so much and wants you to have a purposeful life, to give you hope and a future.

4. The Armor of God

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

How to explain this to your child:

Here’s a simple way to explain each piece of the Armor of God to your child:

Belt of Truth: Imagine a belt that holds up your pants and keeps them from falling. The Belt of Truth helps us to always tell the truth and to be honest, which keeps us strong and ready for anything.

Breastplate of Righteousness: Think of a breastplate like a superhero’s chest armor that keeps them safe. The Breastplate of Righteousness helps protect our hearts and keeps us doing what is right and good.

Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: Just like sturdy shoes help us walk and run comfortably, having our feet put on the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace allows us to be ready at all times to share the good news about God and His peace with others at all times.

Shield of Faith: A shield can block and protect us from arrows or attacks. The Shield of Faith helps us trust in God and protects us from worries or doubts that might try to hurt us.

Helmet of Salvation: A helmet keeps our head safe when we’re playing or riding a bike. The Helmet of Salvation protects our minds, reminding us that we are saved by God and that He loves us very much.

Sword of the Spirit: A sword is used to fight, but this sword is different; it’s made of God’s words from the Bible. The Sword of the Spirit helps us make good choices and stand up for what is right by using what God says in the Bible.

Each part of the Armor of God helps us stay strong and make good choices while we follow God’s path.

5. Fruit of the Spirit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

How to explain this to your child:

The Fruit of the Spirit are the good qualities that God helps us grow inside us, like love, joy, and kindness.

Just like a fruit tree produces fruit, when we let God’s Spirit guide us, these good qualities grow in our hearts and show in our actions.

6. Seven Days of Creation

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth....

How to explain this to your child:

The Seven Days of Creation tell us how God made everything in the world in just six days and rested on the seventh day.

Each day, He created something amazing, like the sky, land, and animals, showing us how wonderfully and carefully He designed our world.

7. The Lord is with me, I will not be afraid

The Lord is with me I will not be afraid

How to explain this to your child:

This verse reminds us that God is always with us, so we don’t have to be scared. Just like we are always here to protect and comfort you, God is always by our side, making us brave.

8. Trust in the Lord with all your heart

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

How to explain this to your child:

This means we should put our full confidence in God, knowing that He loves us and wants the best for us. When we trust God completely, we believe He will help us and guide us through everything.

9. I am fearfully and wonderfully made

I am fearfully and wonderfully made

How to explain this to your child:

This means that God created each of us with great care and love. Just like a beautiful masterpiece, we are special and unique, made by God’s amazing design.

10. When I pray, God bends down to listen to me

Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

How to explain this to your child:

When you pray, it’s like God is bending down to get really close to you so He can hear every word.

Just like when mum and dad bends down to listen to you carefully, God always wants to hear what you have to say because He loves you so much.

11. I am the Son / Daughter of the King

and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.

for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.

How to explain this to your child:

This means that Father God is our King, and that makes us His princes and princesses!

We’re part of God’s royal family, reminding us that we are incredibly special to Him.

It’s a reminder that no matter what happens in our lives, our identity as a son or daughter of God will never change.
